Paula
Paula was born in East Africa, and knew about the Lord for a long time, but did not give her life to him until she was an adult. “I’ve gone through many ups and downs and have fumbled and stumbled a whole lot in my spiritual walk, but I can confidently summarize the pages of my life in one sentence: JESUS LOVES ME, THIS I KNOW! And in one word: GRACE. God’s grace. He who saved me, saved me to the uttermost, and He will keep me, and perfect that which concerneth me. Jesus Christ is the Author and Finisher of my faith.”
Paula is the editor of Yakuti Magazine, the director of Yakuti, a singer, speaker and social activist – “but you know? My identity comes first and foremost from Jesus; who I am in Him, and who He is in me.”
Paula’s Fun Facts:
Books: I rarely have the time to read more than the Bible and my email nowadays, but if you find me reading anything else, it is likely to be a motivational/inspirational/educational book, or one with lots of pictures. Or a blog! I try to be very careful about what I read. From experience, I can say that words are powerful.
Food: East African cuisine! I immensely enjoy Cajun and Indian food as well.
Colour: Purple – the colour of royalty, because I am part of a royal priesthood. Ruby red – because I pray that the Lord would make me a wise and virtuous woman – the Bible says wisdom and a virtuous woman have a price that is far above rubies. Pink is great for its serene and ladylike nature. For some reason, I also love bright, luminous, neon colours: orange, neon green and yellow.
Flower: Lily. “Consider the lilies of the field, they neither toil nor spin, and yet even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” I love orchids and tulips, too. At one point in my life, I did not really care for flowers, but now, I take them for what they are – the Creator’s wonderful works, made for His children’s delight!
Enjoys: Spending time with family, fellowship, cooking, writing, travel/sightseeing, singing and dancing for the Lord… interior design, weddings and a good laugh. Babies have a way of brightening up even what seems to be the dullest of days. I have found it difficult to be grumpy around them.
Will normally try to find ways not to: Fill forms, use the NY subway system. When we started out at Yakuti, I couldn’t stand doing dishes. I did everything I could to minimize it – styrofoam plates, using as few sufurias as I could… but someone must have prayed for me because I recently realized I don’t mind it anymore, and haven’t for a while! So the WASH IT UP, PLEASE sign that I always wanted to put on the wall above my sink is no longer necessary, thank You Jesus, thus far the Lord hath helped me!
Inspirational people: My family, first and foremost. I learnt to pray at home. My friends. A. W. Tozer. Leonard Ravenhill. Ravi Zacharias. Adrian Rogers. Bayless Conley. Blanche Tudilu. Bimbo Odukoya. Nancy Leigh DeMoss. John Piper. Lilian Odera. And yet… all the people I have come across in this life have been used of God to help me in my walk with Him.
Questions:
What is most important for spiritual growth and for life in this day and age?
Worship.
What qualifies you to write for Yakuti?
First of all (and most importantly), the Lord called me to do this. Secondly, I have a strong background in Media and Interpersonal Communication that has come in quite handy. The Lord never wastes our experiences!
