Bruised Chest Muscles

Dear Apprentice,

I just got back from the ER where I was given tons of Ibuprofen.

Apparently I sprained my chest muscle. How can this have happened? What is
the chest muscle, because it felt like it was inside my lungs. Thanks

Fifi

Hey Fifi,

Thanks for writing in. It was quite a shock to find out you had chest muscles right? Most people tend to think that only men have them but no, we women have as much muscle as men, it is just the size that differs. Chest muscles are used with almost every upper body activity! They are used to breathe, lift your arms and sit with your back straight, cough and stretch. They are vital but can easily be injured during strenuous activity.

You have many chest muscles but the two major ones are the Pectoralis Major and Pectoralis Minor; they are very visible in well built men but lie underneath the breast in females. As I mentioned before, they are used in deep breathing and this is why you might think the pain is in your lungs rather than your chest as it hurts to breathe in. Rest assured, with proper rest and care, you’ll be up and about ASAP in Jesus name!

Stay blessed

T
