10 Things to do with your Money in 2010
Stop trusting in it. Money grows wings and flies away. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes, so putting your trust in your fat bank account, or trying to fatten it so that you can trust it, is an exercise in futility as far as your spiritual, physical and mental health goes.
Tithe 10% of it. Tithing is a sensitive topic. Giving is a natural by-product of walking with God. See more on tithing here.
Give some of it to someone who needs it more (or maybe less) than you do. God may direct you to share your money with someone who does not seem to need it as much as you do. Obey Him. Be careful not to be played by false preachers who threaten you with death, disease or spiritual loss if you refuse to part with their money for their sakes.
Get out of debt. Debt can be like a shadow, hanging over your head. It is slavery. In a world that is quickly beginning to be dependent on credit, “get out of debt” can seem like a clueless statement. However, the Bible does tell us to owe no man anything but to love one another.
Ditch credit. God, and not your credit card company, is your provider. Credit cards are as dangerous as they are attractive but it is possible to live without them. Break them, pay your debts, budget wisely, and seek God before your decisions.
Stop using too much of it for entertainment. How much would you save in a year if you stopped getting a Netflix delivery every few days? How much do you use in a year when you throw a party or host a get-together at your house every weekend? Save that money and put it to good use – you will not regret it.
Stop spending it at restaurants. Grocery shop, and cook your food. Aside from saving you a lot of spending, it will probably taste better as well.
Buy a house or a piece of land. Consider your field wisely, and then go ahead and buy it. Invest in something, but don’t let it become where your treasure is.
Keep loose change. Instead of scattering and losing those coins, designate a specific place for them. An old candy container, a piggy bank, or a pencil pouch can all work well.
Pray about what to do with it. Remember the rich man who hoarded plenty and flattered his own soul, only for it to be required of him that night?
