Don’t Leave Without These:
by Jacqui Olorunnisola
Winter might be dull and dreary, but that’s no reason to walk around without a song. You can still be beautiful on the outside and inside. A few essentials you need before you head out of the house:
Your Bible.
Every woman needs a Bible she can carry around with her. You can get some Word into your system on the bus or subway, in-between meetings and work and classes, and even during bathroom breaks.
Natural Shea Butter.
This multipurpose gift can be used all year round to treat eczema, fade stretch marks and dark spots, and shield skin from dry winter conditions. Do not leave your house without it this winter – you will not regret it.
Vitamins
Keep your immune system nice and boosted by remembering to take your vitamins every day. Centrum is a good option for those who want everything in one go, but your regular recommended fruit and vegetable servings will do as well.
The Fashion Basics
Coats: Military, woolblend, biker jacket, fur, or faux-fur, you should have at least one durable winter coat that can keep you going for three winters.
A scarf: Tie it one of many different ways and it will brighten up a simple look.
Boots: It is impossible to stay warm if your legs and feet are freezing. A good pair of knee-length boots will keep the cold away. It’s always good to ensure you have a pair that can withstand icy conditions and layers of snow.
Good socks/hosiery: Get yourself a cute, warm pair to wear indoors or in your boots. The fact that nobody might see them doesn’t mean they have to be tacky.
Skinny jeans: Initially a trend that many thought would not last, the skinny jean is going nowhere, thankfully – and a pair is a good thing to own this winter. This is not to say that we should only wear what is in fashion. As women of God we must remember that confidence is key – if you don’t feel comfortable wearing skinny jeans, go ahead and get yourself a pair you like.
Nice handbag: Every woman needs a bag big enough to comfortably hold her Bible, a notebook, a pen, some hand lotion, her wallet, her lip balm and emergency items.
Gloves: For fumbling inside that lovely tote in the cold, and to hold cold doorknobs and steering wheels and all the many things you might need to touch while outdoors. Leather is long-lasting and reliable, but cannot be cleaned. Knit gloves can be cleaned as often as necessary, but tend to soak in moisture. Your pick.
A Smile.
Even if for a quick second before the cold breeze hits your teeth – smile! We all know its benefits. It will definitely brighten up your winter.
Have a lovely holiday season, and enjoy Christmas!
