Beauty Secret: SMILE

by Jacqui Olorunnisola

smile1My sisters,

This month I want to share a simple but neglected beauty secret with you: SMILE.

Yup! That’s it – smile!

It probably sounds like something you’ve heard so many times before and it might be something you don’t really feel like doing right now, but go ahead and try it out! Part your lips into a huge wide grin.

Okay, maybe you feel like I’m asking too much, or you’re having a bad day. Let me try and motivate you to do it. Here are some reasons why smiling is helpful:

Smiling makes you attractive! Why is this important? Because the more people you attract, the more chances you have to witness about Jesus! People want to get to know smilers – what’s behind your smile? Why are you always so happy?

What, you don’t think smiling is connected to our happiness? Here’s the second reason: Smiling makes you happy! Unless it’s a plastic smile, of course. If you make an effort to genuinely smile, you will feel your mood lifting – for real! Try it now. See? Smiling boosts the levels of a neurotransmitter known as Serotonin, which is vital in regulating appetite, sleep patterns, heart functions, and even muscle contraction. Smiling also releases endorphins, which are natural pain-killers.

Smiling is a stress-reliever. When we are stress-free, our brains are more alert and we are able to respond to daily life issues more effectively. When we speak, people can tell if we are smiling, even on the phone. This can help to reduce tension in conversations, making them flow more freely.

There’s more! Smiling is almost like yawning and laughing – it’s contagious. Have you ever had a moment where you were really upset and someone smiled at you, and you couldn’t help smiling and even breaking into a laugh? Think about the ripple effects! I smile, you smile, they smile, we all smile, and the result is a healthier nation!

Smiling is one way that people can tell you know Jesus. Sometimes Christians are so grouchy that the world wonder which Jesus we know, so they say “If that’s what it’s like, I don’t want to be a part of it!” Jesus is our Healer, Provider, Friend, and there is never a dull moment in Him! If we would really understand the love He has for us and the sacrifice He has made for us, we would be unable to stop smiling. Smiling in a world of troubles and trials is a testimony that you know Someone bigger than what is going on around you.

smile3Ladies, let’s try it today! Break into a smile and see what a blessing it will be to you and others.

Have a blessed, ”smiley” month!

For those who are still single *wink wink* - don’t drive Mr. Right away with a bitter frown! You never know when he is right around the corner.

Jacqui.
