Pea this might seem like a tough question but what are the characteristics of a good girlfriend?

Thanks for your question. The word “characteristics” makes me remember my high school exams and it would be great if I could come up with a cute and impressive little list of do’s and don’ts that young women can print out and refer to twice a day or something like that .

Well, people are different. I’m sure you know the saying “one man’s meat is another man’s poison.” For as long as human beings and their different personalities and preferences exist, there will be no complete, set list of specs that a good girlfriend must have. Of course there are the general character traits that go across the board, whether single, courting or married and these are evident in Scripture and should be founded on Love. They are the no-brainers for every Christian: honesty, trust, patience, understanding, loyalty, etc.

You could go one way and decide to find out and be the kind of person your boyfriend likes. But even among Christian circles, many relationships do not work out. If this is the case for you and you break up and then begin a relationship with someone else, you’ll have to adjust your personality to fit this other person because no two men are the same. And if that relationship doesn’t work out… you get the picture. I’d say be yourself, look to God for guidance and let the man who thinks you would make a good girlfriend come and get you. That way, your character will not fluctuate dependent on your circumstances. You are fearfully and wonderfully made just the way you are (Psalm 139) and God dwells in you if you have given your life to Him (1 Corinthians 3:16). Seeking to please Him will make you a good girlfriend, sister, auntie, and in future, mother and grandmother. Let Him be your yardstick.
