Hi Yinka,

This is a highly debatable topic but I know exactly what you mean especially since I lived with roomies for a good number of years. Some say it is just a coincidence but others believe in “menstrual synchrony”. Experts who believe in it say it is due to pheromones; natural chemicals we emit and smell but are completely unaware of. The theory is women on their periods emit certain pheromones which are able to “jump start” the cycles of women they are constantly around; the closer you are, the longer you are exposed to the pheromones and voila! menstrual synchrony. As I said earlier, this is highly debatable and chances are, it won’t be settled any time soon.
