That Which You Desire

READ IT ALOUD: For the LORD God is a sun and a shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11).

PONDER IT PRAYERFULLY: “O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth thee,” this particular psalmist says (Psalm 84:12). Trusting God is easier said than done. Many of us will easily encourage a distressed brother or sister and assure them that trusting the Lord is enough to get them through their struggles. But when it’s our turn to deal with tough times, we realize it’s not as easy as blinking and saying you will do it.

God is a Sun because His love will shed light on our darkest days. Even though we walk through the dark valley of the shadow of death, if we keep our minds on Him we will have perfect peace and faith will replace fear. God is a Shield because He knows that while we wait for an answer from Him, we are prone to attacks of the enemy; doubts  and other vices may begin to attempt to creep into our lives. He protects us from these – nothing can happen to us without His permission and nothing comes through to us if it has not been screened by Him first. God delivers us from evil at all times while we trust in Him. He gives us the grace to endure the wait and to hope in Him; He provides the “glory”, or the reward, at the appointed time.

No good thing will He withhold; but there is a condition, which is that we must walk uprightly. Obedience is a precursor to blessing.

BE A DOER (JAMES 1:22): Trusting God means being at peace concerning His will  for us. when we trust God, we will not question Him but instead will remember that He has everything under control. surrounding events will not move us – recessions and credit crunches and high divorce rates and even the continued increase in unique and scary illnesses around us will cause us to remember that “a thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand, but it shall not come nigh thee” (Psalm 91:7). trusting God means remaining faithful even when things do not turn out as we wish for them to, or as fast as we would like them to.

HIDE IT IN YOUR HEART (PSALM 119:11): Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? if ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? (Matthew 7:9-11.)

PRAY IT PERSONALLY: Father in heaven, I can trust You only as You provide the grace for me to. I look around, and it seems like the world is in dire straits and my own circumstances so often slip beyond my control. thank You for the reminder today that You are a Sun and a Shield and will withhold no good thing from me. Walking uprightly begins with faith – let me remember that I don’t always have to understand, because You know all things.Give me the faith to pray specifically and ask You for the things I desire because You will grant them in accordance with Your will. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
