Recession Decorating Ideas
by Chantal Uwimana
The Recession doesn’t mean you can’t keep your living space looking beautiful. There are many cheap ways to redecorate. Here are a few ideas:
- Rearrange a room – Moving things around can make a huge difference.

- Switch curtains around – after a good wash, you can actually try bathroom curtains in the kitchen or switch the living room and dining room curtains around to create a new look.
- Go African – African decorative pieces can be found for very good prices and even where they are expensive, one piece can go a long way in adding character or changing up a room’s look. It’s as simple as adding a wicker basket in the perfect place, a few cushions or pillows on a plain couch or bed, or a decorative piece on a surface where it will be noticed.
- Declutter – Creating space can make a big difference in the ambience of a room. Unnecessary stools; speakers and machines in the wrong place, and things that have generally piled up in an area over time can be relegated to other sections of your space or house. You can use your scraps to make something unique and useful. I saw a woman on TV make comfy sandals from old mouse pads.
- Clean up! Scrub your tub – maybe it is not supposed to be off-white. We have equipment nowadays that helps us to do more work in less time, we should take advantage.
- Add color – Paint one wall a daring colour. Depending on how you paint it, you might not need to add anything to it. If you do you can use one large piece instead of many smaller ones.
- The key is to go back to the budget and shop only when absolutely necessary.

Have a good month.
