Lower = Higher

READ IT ALOUD: Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men: For better is it that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen (Proverbs 25:6-7).

PONDER IT PRAYERFULLY: The way of God is always contrary to the way of the world. In the world, for us to be raised, we head upwards. But in God, to go up, one must lower oneself.  One person said, “Instead of being proud that so many give place to us, it should be humbling to us that there are so many that we must give place to… The way to rise is to begin low.”

Pride is like beginning high and being overcome by gravity. The higher one is, the harder one falls.

Humility involves being content with where we are. It is that point at which we do not desire to have more than we need or become more than we are called to be. When we are humble, we are willing to put others first and look worse than they do, not for the purposes of false modesty or even for a reward but simply because God’s love for His children is expressed in our hearts.

BE A DOER (JAMES 1:22): Just like one day follows another, honour follows humility. God has promised that if we humble ourselves, He will lift us up.  It may not be easy, but it’s very simple: Wanna go up? Alright – go down.

HIDE IT IN YOUR HEART (PSALM 119:11): But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble (James 4:6).

PRAY IT PERSONALLY: Father in heaven, I know that if I do not humble myself, I will be humbled. I ask You today to forgive me for instances of pride in my life. I pray that You would enable me to be content with what You give me because You know my needs and You are faithful to provide them according to Your riches in glory. Thank You for this word today; help me to be obedient, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
