How can I find out if my hymen is broken?

Hi Toyin,

I have a question…. it’s about the hymen. I’m 24 years old and so this
might seem like a bit silly but I’m wondering, how can I know if I’ve
broken my hymen?
Thanks.

Hey Busingye,
The hymen is a thin teeth sheet of tissue that covers the entrance of the vagina, for a lady to start a menstrual period, this same hymen rips a little (under the influence of hormones) to allow the passage of menstruation. Many things can rip the hymen including the use of tampons, physical activity, gynecological examinations and of course sexual activity.

Now with this said…

Virginity should be viewed as all-around state of sexual purity that the bible commands. As females, we are to be pure in actions, thought and words. I am bringing up this fact to explain that the idea of “virginity” is so much more than the presence of hymen. Any person penetrated by anything for sexual purposes (excluding tampons and gyn exams of course) is no longer considered a virgin. If we based virginity only on the presence of a hymen, 99% of women who have menstrual cycles would not be considered virgins. I think the more important question is to ask, am I physically pure and treating my body as the temple of God?

Stay Blessed
T
