Always Triumphant
READ IT ALOUD: And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it (Colossians 2:15).
PONDER IT PRAYERFULLY: A pastor once explained this verse to me in a way that made me see it in a different light. The devil has been spoiled, i.e. utterly defeated, by Jesus Christ. He has been rendered defeated and is powerless against us for as long as we are in Christ. This pastor said that the devil is like a quadriplegic, shouting to us from an immobile chair, saying, “I’m gonna get you.” Of course the only thing he can do is make a lot of noise like a dog that barks with no bite to prove itself.
Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, said his prayer for them was that God would open the eyes of their understanding, that they would know what hope they had in Jesus and how great His power is to believers (Ephesians 1:18-19).
We should be encouraged by today’s word because it shows us that not only are we also victorious, but we have a secure future in Jesus and the enemy’s schemes will never prevail against us. We are victorious always, because Jesus already won the war. It is a cause for celebration and every trial we undergo should be a reminder of the victory that has already been won.
BE A DOER (JAMES 1:22): Knowing that we win makes us fight the good fight to the best of our ability. Realizing that we are powerless without Jesus should give us every reason to cling to Him for dear life. Praise and thanksgiving acknowledge that we realize we have been set free from a yoke that we could not bear and trust demonstrates that we believe what He says in His Word.
HIDE IT IN YOUR HEART (PSALM 119:11): And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD (Psalm 27:6).
PRAY IT PERSONALLY: Father in heaven, thank You for what You have done for me and for Your unfailing love towards me. Thank You because in You I am victorious and secure! I ask that You would help me to live life aware of my position as a winner in You and that You would remind me of my victory in You in times of trial and in times of joy. Thank You for hearing my prayer, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
