Getting Over It
The Word: To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him (Daniel 9:9).
Prayerful Contemplation: It is easy to beat ourselves up when we feel we have fallen, and sometimes guilt sets in even after we have confessed and repented on discovering that we are no different from the people in Siloam, especially if the sins in our past have had far-reaching consequences and have affected more people than we ever intended.
God hears His children’s prayers and will forgive us if we genuinely ask Him to do so.
Jesus died only once, and rose again, and ascended into heaven, and it is for this reason that for each sin, we need only ask God for forgiveness just one genuine time. He has promised to forget our sins; who are we to bring them to remembrance?
Practical Application: Moving on and getting over the past means knowing who God is and trusting that He will do as He has said. His Word says mercies and forgivenesses belong to Him. He forgives and cleanses us if we confess. Why doubt? It is impossible to please God without faith, after all.
Memory Verse: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Prayer: Father in heaven, thank You for forgiveness and for Your tender mercies. Let me remember this week and always that I don’t have to keep asking over and over again for forgiveness over the same particular issue. Let me learn to live right, and please purge my heart of all guilt, because Jesus Christ bore my shame for me. I thank and praise You, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
