Who Loves You?

The Word: Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee (Jer 31:3).

Prayerful Contemplation: After discovering the roots of Valentine’s Day, I don’t really consider it such a big deal anymore. However, it’s very interesting to watch people extravagantly and flamboyantly express their love for each other – and for me, even – doing what they can to make the day memorable.

There is nothing wrong with celebrating love for one day every year, except for one tiny thing: love can be expressed and celebrated every single day of the year.

As I was thinking about this Valentine’s Day, I realized that if we know the true Source of Love, then we will not need a card, a rose or a beautiful date to reassure us of someone’s love for us. Today, I chose to see love for God in the sunrise, in the sparkling, white snow on the ground, in His Word, in His calm, peaceful voice that is like the sound of many waters. I remember the greatest act of love ever – that while I was yet a sinner, Christ died for me (Romans 5:6-8).

God loves me – God loves US – and the blessing in this is, it is an everlasting love that is expressed every hour of every single day.

Practical Application: While I will not turn down the wonderful gifts I may receive this Valentine’s Day, I will not forget the only One Who truly loves me every day.  I will not love Him just one day a year – I will go out of my way to express my love for Him every single time I get the chance. He has loved me with an everlasting love – I should love Him back with all my love.

Memory Verse: He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love (Song of Solomon 2:4).

Prayer: To the Father Who loves me, the Son Who died for me, the Holy Spirit Who comforts me… to the God Who guides me and speaks to me always, how can I express the love that I have for You? It is impossible. It is even more impossible to understand the love You have for me. I thank You for this day, for Your love, for Your grace and mercy, and I pray that You would make me a vessel of love, shining Your light everywhere I go, and loving Your children every day of the year. Nobody can love me more than You do, and for this, I greatly thank You.
